Spray-On Contact Adhesive System

JM800

JM800

JM800 Spray-On Contact Adhesive is a versatile, high quality contact adhesive that is sprayed onto the surfaces, thus saving the floor layer hours. Tests prove up to three times faster application. JM800 is fast drying with a long open time, excellent coverage and no wastage. Suitable for most vinyls, carpets, and PVC flooring accessories.

USES

JM800 can be used to install the following: PVC Skirtings, cappings and coveformers, vinyl sheet, vinyl backed floorcoverings, wood, fabric, cardboard, polythene and decorative laminates. Carpets: Jute secondary backed, synthetic secondary backed, needlepunched/fibrebonded, latex/unitary backed, latex foam, gel backed, and felt backed. Note: Always test a small sample of material to be bonded, the test conditions must replicate the site conditions e.g. ambient temperatures, moisture content, before starting the installation. Some vinyls for example, contain large amounts of plasticiser, which can soften and dissolve the bond over time. With vertical applications there are certain paints/primers used, which can impair the performance of JM800. We recommend you consult our technical department before application.

SUBFLOORS

Suitable subfloors include concrete, sand/cement screed, smoothing underlayment, plywood, flooring grade chipboard, hardboard and wood. Note: There are certain grades of flooring grade chipboard that have been treated with paraffin wax to provide a waterproof quality. These types of chipboards are not suitable for use with this adhesive.

PREPARATION

All parts of the installation should comply with the latest edition of the following British Standard Code of Practice: BS5325 The Installation of Resilient Flooring or BS5325 The Installation of Textile Floorcoverings. Another useful source of reference is The CFA Guide to Contract Flooring. Subfloors must be sound, smooth, clean, dry and free from any contamination which will affect the adhesion. Relative humidity of cementations subfloors should be 75% or less (when tested by the method described in BS8203). Direct to earth bases must incorporate an effective damp proof membrane. Very absorbent surfaces should be primed with a suitable sealer. Note: This adhesive is not suitable for underfloor heating installations.

APPLICATION

  1. When connecting the hose to the gun and the canister for the first time please ensure a spanner is used to tighten the nuts to avoid any leakage of adhesive. Prime the gun and hose with the spray tip nozzle removed, this is achieved by pulling back the trigger on the spray gun until all the air is expelled from the gun and hose and the adhesive is flowing out of the spray gun. Failure to prime the a new gun and hose could result in a blocked spray tip nozzle. Replace the the nozzle (vertical slot for spraying left to right , horizontal for spraying up and down) then tighten the nozzle housing nut.
  2. Once the hose has been connected to the canister, always keep the valve on the canister open and the hose and spray gun pressurised at all times. Do not disconnect hose from empty canister until you are ready to connect to new full canister, this avoids adhesive drying in the hose and spray gun.
  3. Always test a small sample of material to be bonded before starting installation. Some vinyls, for example, contain large amounts of plasticiser, which soften and dissolve the bond over time.
  4. Mark area to be sprayed. If necessary use masking tape to define the area and avoid any over spray onto newly decorated walls.
  5. Use JM800 in a well-ventilated area.
  6. For best results apply at room temperature. If this is not possible in severe weather condition immerse the canister in warm water to raise the the canister temperature, this will avoid any adhesive separation.
  7. Hold the tip of the spray gun at 150mm to 300mm away from the surface and maintain a content 90° angle. Do not tilt the spray angle. Do not allow the adhesive to puddle due to excessive spraying.
  8. Apply adhesive uniformly in a web pattern to both surfaces. One surface should be sprayed vertically and the other horizontally, where possible, to ensure a secure bond. Coverage should be 80% to 100%.
  9. Allow the adhesive to dry completely before bonding both surfaces; this should take 3 to 5 minutes depending on the temperature and humidity. Both surfaces should be touch dry.
  10. Place the materials accurately into position and press firmly to exclude any air and to ensure overall contact, and roll the floor area with a 68kg roller.
  11. Laminate and wood products may expand and contract depending on temperature and humidity. When bonding these materials, it is recommended they are stored at room temperature for at least 48 hours prior to applying adhesive and assembly.
